Soft Goods/Toy Designer - FREELANCE

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Developing new products and packaging from concept sketches through to production specs, with a focus on soft toys and personal accessories. Reviews samples and send feedback to factories throughout the development process. Also manages smaller design projects, including initial research and costing through to final pricing.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

·         Assisting Senior Designers and Design Director

·         Sketching new product concepts

·         Specifying new products that follow the Brief

·         Communicating with factories and/or modelmakers to develop product samples

·         Developing packaging dielines and specifying packaging plans

·         Creating concept sheets for use by sales

·         Working with Production team to hand off all product specs

·         Mocking up products and packaging as needed

 

REQUIREMENTS:

4-year degree, preferably in Industrial Design or Graphic Design

3+ years experience in a related field

Excellence in Adobe CS: Photoshop, Illustrator

Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Merchandising Assistant

Skip Hop is seeking a Full time Merchandising Assistant for our growing team.  This position will support the Director of Merchandising with the introduction of successful new product launches and the discontinuation of current products. The merchandising assistant will help with market and competitive research and act as a liaison with design, sales and marketing departments. This is a great position for someone that is interested in juvenile product design and would like to get their start with an exciting, growing company. 

Responsibilities:

  • Analysis of products on the market, features and price points
  • Research trends and innovation taking place in US and overseas
  • Help to determine product mix, launch timing, retail price points
  • Coordinate consumer research including surveys, focus groups and in home studies
  • Help to create visuals of product lines at retail including planograms and displays
  • Work with copywriter and marketing to insure proper messaging for packaging, catalog and web

National Account Manager

Skip Hop is seeking a National Account Manager to join our growing Sales team. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a new product launch in a quickly expanding category for a well-established business. This person will manage boutique businesses as well as major accounts.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Identify opportunities to open up new channels of distribution.
  • Monitor competitor brands and products as well as our market share, competitor market share, and target market share to understand shopper trends.
  • Analyzes retailer sales data and market sales data to provide insights for growing the business.
  • Applies understanding of product portfolio, brand  positioning, brand vision & strategy to drive product sell-in and sell-through.
  • Develops and manages relationship with key partners (financial planners, buyers, etc.).
  • Presents new ideas, trends, and data and recommends new products and marketing programs to the customer.
  • Establishes trust and credibility by demonstrating clear understanding of the customers objectives and goals.
  • Addresses customer concerns/needs and elevates as appropriate.
  • Executes pricing and marketing funds strategies and initiatives to drive profitable growth.

 Skills & Experience:

  • 5-8 years’ experience in account management of national retailers.
  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree.
  • Must have strong background in children’s apparel and layette and established relationships in the industry.
  • Is able to think strategically and see the big picture.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to work in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Must be comfortable working with both small and large accounts.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Solid understanding of financials including P&L impact of sales decisions.
  • Strong PC skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to turn insights into actionable plans.

 


Structural Packaging Designer

Parenting can be tough, but here at Skip Hop, we believe it can all be easier when you have unique, innovative and highly functional products on hand. 

Our growing Product Development team in Flatiron NYC is looking for a creative, motivated structural packaging designer who can support our Design and Development teams. This includes the creation of packaging for a diverse range of products from softgoods to hardgoods, for US and International markets, as well as point-of-sale displays. This is a key position with lots of responsibility, from initial ideation and comps to final dielines.

If you like a fast-paced environment and a variety of projects, this could be the place for you. Once you're on board, you will be working with several internal departments and responsible for approving samples from overseas factories, so you must be a great communicator and very detailed oriented. 

Responsibilities:

• Researches competitive packaging for each category and project as needed
• Develops innovative structural designs that are on-brand, cost effective, and structurally sound
• Responsible for schedule development and executing on-time
• Responsible for die-line creation (in Illustrator) and material specification
• Prototypes and presents work to internal teams for approvals throughout the development process
• Creates packaging samples/prototypes for evaluation and sales/marketing tools
• Works closely with Graphic Design to determine areas needed for messaging
• Responsible for creating thorough, easy-to-follow packing instructions for vendors
• Responsible for checking vendor samples and commenting as needed
• Supports Development team with design of master cartons and packing methods
• Maintains library of existing packaging and materials

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Design
• 2-4 years of work experience in structural packaging specialty
• Solid skills in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office. 3D CAD skills a plus
• Knowledge of packaging materials, including paperboard types and finishes, blisters
• Knowledge of printing/manufacturing/assembly process
• Experience with drop-test requirements for packaging and cartoning
• Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks--good time-management, organizational and problem-solving skills
• Creative, with strong 3D geometric and problem-solving abilities
